一、讲座题目与简介

Title:

Numerical Simulation of High-Speed Compressible Flows in Problems of Aerospace Research and Explosion Safety. The Scientific Background and Proposed Research Topics.

Abstract:

At the lecture I will talk about my experience in numerical simulation of a range of problems in the field of numerical combustion and two-phase flows. Three classes of the problems will be addressed.

The first one is gaseous flows with detonation waves. Detonation is a supersonic combustion wave. The process is of great current interest because of its practical implementation in the rotating detonation engines. The problem of the propagation of detonation waves in a non-uniform medium will be discussed.

The second class of problems is particle-resolved simulations of motion of rigid bodies in a high-speed compressible environment. The problem relates to the clarification of mechanisms of dust explosions in mines. The progress in the development of the Cartesian grid method for such kinds of simulations will be shown as well as several results on the motion of particles in a flow behind the shock wave.

The third direction of my research is the development of two-phase models for the simulation of the interaction of shock waves with dense clouds or layers of particles. The advantages of the so-called Baer-Nunziato governing system of equations for the two-phase compressible flows will be discussed.

In conclusion, I will talk about my teaching experience, about the courses I have taught, as well as about the proposed research topics.

Dr. PAVEL UTKIN, Professor, Harbin Institute of Technology

 

From 2014 up to 2022 Pavel Utkin had been working as a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Computer Aided Design of the Russian Academy of Sciences and as an Associate Professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). He has a Bachelor’s degree (2006), a Master’s degree (2008) in Applied Mathematics and Physics and a Ph.D. degree (2010) in Mathematics and Physics from the MIPT

The area of his expertise is Computational Fluid Dynamics of compressible flows. His research includes a lot of problems of high-speed one-phase or two-phase compressible inert or reactive flows using high-performance computing

Pavel Utkin has developed and taught two graduate courses, titled “Numerical Simulation of Reactive Flows” and “Computational Gas Dynamics”. They are taught to students of the MIPT School of Aerospace Technologies.
