【专家简介】 Charles Lock，教授，牛津大学语言文学博士。担任Journal of Modern Literature, T.S. Eliot Journal, European Journal of Life Writing, the Powys Journal的主编。研究方向为英语语言文学，包括文学批评和文学理论研究。

【讲座简介】 An account of the influence of the railways on the sociology of reading and on the construction of plots, with reference to Bakhtin's concept of the chronotope: how the novel represents the new configurations of time and of space brought about by speed and the fixed vectors of railway engineering. A contrast will be made with water-borne transport in literature. Most of the texts will be from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
